Chapter 1.2 - Sometimes you need to just let it out!

Sometimes you need to just let it out!
Warning:  Language and Running Around in Undies

Morning came and went as Mackenzie slumbered peacefully, well into the afternoon.
She woke up with a start, disoriented.  "What the.." she thought as she looked around the strange room and then down to the scratchy wool sheets.  Where am I? she worried with alarm.

Slowly, the memories trickled back, calming her racing heart.
A look out the window confirmed it.  She was in Dragon Valley.  God knows where..

Sighing, she got out of bed, surprised to find she was still wearing her club dress. She wished she had some other clothes - but it was either this or her bra and panties.  And she could just imagine the look that would've crossed Breandan's face had she stripped down to go to sleep.

Quickly she shut her eyes against the image.  No! She shouldn't think of him as Breandan. He was the police captain. Her boss!

He'd told her last night that he was going to let the receptionist go and that she would be doing him a favor if she filled in for them. Which meant no fooling around.  No matter how his violet eyes made her want to jump his bones!
When she walked out into the dining area, such as it was, she was surprised to see a note from Breandan... no!... Captain O'Shea.

She picked it up and read the note, noticing the small, neat handwriting written without flourish, "Food in the fridge. Phone for work."

"Aw," she murmured, clutching the note to her chest. "He bought me food! And a phone!"  She wasn't sure why that made her feel so giddy, but it certainly did!
Hurrying to the fridge, she put together a slice of jam and bread - the extent of her culinary expertise!
Breakfast had never tasted so good!

***
Since she didn't have anywhere else to go today, Mac pulled off her dress and attempted to wash it in the sink.  Hopefully that will work well enough until I can get some different clothes, she thought, hanging it up on the old, rusty shower to dry.
Washing her only dress kind of kept her chained to the house, so Mac headed back to her bed and laid down.  Unbidden, violet eyes and lavender hands starred in her pornographic daydreams.

The phone Breandan gave her started ringing, startling her out of her reverie.  Only one person had her number...
Eagerly, she answered the phone.  "Hello?" she asked, sounding perhaps a little breathless.

"Hi, I just was just calling to check in on you. Did you get the food I left?" Breandan asked.

Mackenzie smirked.  Oh she was sure that's why he was calling.  "I sure did. Thanks! Some men give flowers, some men give food!" she teased.

"I would imagine the food would be the more welcome gift," he stated.  "Seeing as how you can't eat flowers."

Mac laughed.  "Well, one would assume!"

Breandan laughed along with her, then spoke up, "I thought we might meet at the gym. We're a peaceful town here in Dragon Valley, but if you're going to be working at the Garda, then you should be able to defend yourself."

"Ah, that's sweet," she cooed. "You're worried about me!"

She could just hear Breandan shaking his head.  He was so straight-laced! A grin spread across her face as the devilish imp whispered in her ear.  Before he could say anything, she sighed dramatically, "Oh course, I would love to join you, except I'm not wearing anything right now."
There was a long pause and a discrete, muffled cough.

"You're not wearing anything?" Breandan finally managed to say.

Mac smiled, knowing full well how that probably affected him.  "I'm washing my dress," she said innocently, "So I've been running around the house in my bra and panties all day!"

"All day?" he asked.

"Mmmhmmm," she murmured.

Another long pause.

"So, it should be dry by now?" he asked smugly, obviously trying to hold in his laughter.

Damn. He caught her! she mentally swore.  She smiled, "I suppose I can go check," she sniffed playfully.

"Good, I'll see you down at the Practice Pit in twenty minutes," he said as he hung up.

A grin split across Mac's face, despite his assumption that she would be there.
She hurriedly dressed in her mostly-dry dress.  She didn't want to miss going on an outing with Breandan!

***

Breandan was there waiting for her when she got there.  She saw him glance down at her dress and she knew he was thinking about her running around the Humble house without anything on.

"So, you wanted to see me?" she asked.
Breandan's head jerked up from ogling her.  "Yes!" he answered, clearing his throat.  "I thought that we might see what skills you have."  She raised her eyebrow and watched as he flushed.  "Fighting skills," he clarified.

"Well, back at the foster home, older kids used to pick on me, so I got pretty good at defending myself," she said, shrugging.  "I can hold my own."
"And your stamina?" he asked her.

Again, her eyebrows shot up.

Breandan swallowed a curse and added, "If you have to run away!"  Plumbbob, Breandan, get  your mind out of the gutter, he told himself.

Mackenzie laughed as she fluttered her eyelashes at him.  She enjoyed flustering him!

"Come on, I'll buy you some more groceries if you can race longer than I can," he told her, heading inside.
Mackenzie scowled. "There's no way you're going to beat me!" she replied hotly.
She followed him inside towards the treadmills.
Tentatively, she got on the machine.  "This isn't fair," she said. "I only have heels!"

"Kick them off!" Breandan told her.  "They're not worth wearing if they're going to get you killed!"
Mackenzie rolled her eyes.  "We're just racing! We're not running from zombies or something."

Breandan laughed as he upped his speed.  "You say the funniest things," he told her with an amused tone.
Mackenzie pushed herself as hard as she could, but even after kicking off her heels, she wasn't able to run as fast as he could.  Angrily she hopped off the treadmill.  "Ugh!" she complained.  "That wasn't a fair race at all! You're in better shape than I am!"

"You're not being a sore loser, are you, Mac?" he teased playfully as he hopped off the treadmill.
Mackenzie froze in place, the color leeching from her face. "What did you call me?" she asked softly.  Remmy and her friends always used to call her Mac.  Would she ever see them again?  No matter how much fun she had or what a great outing she had, she never should have forgotten them!  "I'm a horrible person," she whispered, horrified.

"Mackenzie? Are you okay?" he asked. "I did not mean to offend you."  She hardly heard him.
"What am I doing here?!" she exploded, angry at her circumstances.  "Why did this happen to me?! I'm not supposed to in some weird medieval-looking town with a bunch of rainbow people! I'm supposed to be in Bridgeport with my on-again, off-again boyfriend and crappy waitressing job! Don't you understand how crazy this is?!"
Breandan held his hands up in an attempt to calm her down.  "Mackenzie," he said, using her full name, "Please, calm down."
She did not like hearing that.  "Don't tell me to calm down! I am calm! FUCK!" She vented as she threw her hands up in the air.

Breathing heavily, she started to calm down and became aware of how the Practice Pit was now that the other villagers were staring at her speechlessly.
She ducked her head down to avoid their gazes.  "I'm sorry," she told Breandan quietly. "I don't know where that came from."
Breandan nodded quietly and reached for her hand.  "Come, let me walk you home," he said, leading her through the door and down the steps as she numbly followed his lead.

  1. I love how flustered Breandan gets.
But, oh, wow, I hope Mackenzie didn't put him off with her little freak out, there! He seems to be okay, though...

    1. Hehe, yeah, well, he was on his way out the door, telling her that "someone obviously had unresolved issues". But, he's such a gentleman, of *course* he would walk her home first! Although, I think she's handling landing in a different world a lot better than I would! :) She deserves a freak-out or two. (And we might see plenty with her being Inappropriate & Hot-Headed!)
